HOW TO CHANGE NAME IN RWANDA
How to change name in Rwanda is one the most asked questions by married couples and even people who feel their current names are not good for them.
Also, people change names after marriage or if they find that such names have different meanings which is interpreted to mean bad omen in community or society.
GROUNDS FOR NAME CHANGE IN RWANDA
i. If the name infringes upon the honor of the person bearing it;
ii. If the name is offensive to good morals or people’s moral integrity ;
iii. In addition to the above, when the name is used by another person such that it may infringe upon his/her honor or cause injury to his/her property
iv. Other reason are valid by the Minister in charge of civil status.
THE COST OF CHANGING NAME IN RWANDA
The cost of changing the name is 20,000 frw (20 USD) in order to get a certificate confirming the change of names.
DURATION FOR THE CHANGING OF NAME IN RWANDA
The process of change of name may take approximately 90 days or less depending on the complexity or ones file, availability of document requested.
THE PROCESS OF CHANGING NAME IN RWANDA
a. The applicant can apply by using his /her National ID;
b. Also he or she must create personal accounts at irembo (only Rwandans).
c. Furthermore, the applicant will provide their identification, desired name and the reasons for the request.
d. After the application, the user will pay using the bill ID
